Dermal Fillers Q & A
What are the benefits of Restylane®, Juvederm®, and Voluma®?
Restylane, Juvederm, and Juvederm Voluma add volume to areas where soft tissues start to disappear. Dr. Weinman mainly uses dermal fillers to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles and add volume to specific areas, such as the lips and cheeks. Both Juvederm products and Restylane use hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found within the body. There are very few side effects with these types of fillers, but Dr. Weinman can explain the risks and benefits of dermal fillers during an initial consultation.
How is Belotero® used?
Belotero, a form of dermal filler, adds volume and decreases the visible signs of wrinkles and creases. The filler uses hyaluronic acid to produce the volumizing effects visible within a few hours of the procedure. As volume is added to the underlying tissues, the skin stretches, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and lines that come with age and loss of collagen. Dr. Weinman uses Belotero as a "starter" filler to correct the fine lines that appear around the eyes and nose. The procedure offers very few side effects and the results last up to 6 months or more. Dr. Weinman uses different dermal fillers depending on what outcome is desired.
Where is the best place to use Perlane®?
Perlane, made by the same company that manufactures Restylane, helps correct deep wrinkles on the face. The primary difference between the two dermal fillers involves the depth of the injection and the use of larger particles that help address deep wrinkles and creases. Ideally, the filler helps areas where the deepest wrinkles form, including the corner of the nose, corners of the mouth, and beyond. In some cases, these lines stretch downward across the chin at either side of the mouth and jawline. Dr. Weinman also uses Perlane to correct deep wrinkles that appear on the forehead and along the sides of the face.
